This hidden gem in the Icelandic highlands is worth a visit! The first time I set eyes on the turquoise blue water and multiple waterfalls in this canyon, I jumped for joy. The contrast of the gray rocks, green moss and icy blue water is a feast for your eyes. Not only do most people who visit Iceland don't know this place exist, many locals don't either. It's spectacular and is definitely a canyon I will be returning to in the future.
Please note - You must have a 4x4 car that is insured to travel on F-roads, which are the only roads in the Icelandic highlands.

It is easy to miss the turn for this spot, so keep your eyes open to that while driving and looking at the map. You can either view the waterfalls from the top of the canyon. If you are adventurous and a good hiker, you can walk down to a lower spot off to the far right of the canyon. There is a little plateau that is about midway between the top and bottom of the canyon walls. This will give you a better view of the water, waterfalls and the canyon itself.
