Visit one of the coolest museums in Iceland. Eldheimar Museum offers a unique experience that you won't find anywhere else in Iceland. It tells the story of the 1973 eruption of the Eldfell volcano and its impact on the island's residents. What makes it unique is that the museum’s building was created around one of the houses that were excavated after it had been buried under lava rock and ash during the eruption.

The 1973 eruption of the Eldfell volcano was a significant event in Iceland's history, and the Eldheimar Museum offers visitors a chance to learn about the impact it had on the island's inhabitants. The eruption lasted for months, and the island's inhabitants were forced to evacuate.

Additionally, the flowing changed the landscape of the island and if residents had not intervened, it might have completely closed off the harbor that you entered into on the ferry.

Visitors can see the ash-covered houses, photos and videos of the eruption, and hear personal stories of those who experienced it. The different stations include artifacts and personal stories that give visitors a glimpse into what life was like during and after the eruption.

The interactive exhibits make the experience more engaging and memorable. You can learn via touchscreens, hear personal stories from the island's inhabitants, and watch videos of the eruption.

The museum is suitable for visitors of all ages and is an excellent activity for families with children.
