Medieval history meets virtual reality for an epic experience of one of the most brutal battles in Icelandic history. Yes, there was an unfortunate civil war in 1238 that set the country on its course to lose independence and eventually be ruled by the Danish for over 500 years.
Along with cool artifacts, you can try on battle equipment and take a selfie looking like a warrior ready for battle. I was surprised at how heavy the clothing and helmets are!
The main attraction in this museum is when you get to strap on a VR headset and vibrating that transports you back in time to help fight in the battle.
I clearly need to work on my hand/eye coordination in the VR world because it was a little challenging for me to throw spears and rocks at my opponents in the beginning but once I got the hang of it, I was stoked. It's funny and a little stressful to feel the vest vibrate when the opposing side has hit you with a weapon. I absolutely loved this VR experience and I would do it again.
Lastly, there is a room after the VR experience you can go through that simulates a burning building. There is a lot of fake smoke and it is difficult to see. Personally, it reminded me of a haunted house, which I don't like going in, but no one jumps out or anything like that. Just something to keep in mind.
If that is not your cup of tea, you can opt out of it.
