Renaissance town with grid layout

Message from Francesco Meola

Terra del Sole is a beautiful Renaissance town located in the Emilia-Romagna region. The town was built in 1564 by Cosimo I de’ Medici and it has a grid layout and thick walls to defend against attacks. Stepping in Terra del Sole is like going back to the past, as the town was left unchanged (aside from the cars inside the town though).

The town has a central square called Piazza d'Armi and here are located important buildings like the church and Palazzo dei Commissari. It even has two small castles on the entrances. I had the pleasure to know the owners of "Castello del Capitano" and they made me do a tour of the castle which is super cool. They also rent rooms and have a restaurant called "Osteria del Castello", highly recommend dining here.
