16km walk through rugged coastline to this lighthouse

Cape Brett / Rakaumangamanga is a 1000 year old site with a significant historic and spiritual significance to Maori. It is the location of the Cape Brett Lighthouse, which has been used for the past 110 years to guide ships into New Zealand’s harbour. Constructed in 1910, the lighthouse cost 11,237 3s 5d and runs on a giant clockwork mechanism. Guests to Cape Brett can experience the lighthouse life by staying in the one-time Keeper's Cottage that has been repurposed as a DOC hut. Notable for its stunning cliff top location, the lighthouse still operates today and acts as a guardian of the light for all seafarers, serving as a reminder of the area’s rich maritime history.
