Take a refreshing dip in Emerald Lake or paddle over top of what is the closest thing to the Maldives in the North. The water is crystal clear and pretty shallow in areas so it can actually warm up quite a bit compared to other Yukon lakes (it's still "cold" though). The best time for a swim is June - August. I really enjoy bringing out a canoe or paddle boards to paddle up to one of many little beaches. The pullout to get here is unmarked so follow the directions below.

*Get here via the South Klondike Highway

  • If you're traveling from Whitehorse towards Carcross pay attention as soon as you see the Emerald Lake View Point pullout

  • Continue on the highway down the hill and there will be a dirt road on the right, pull off here. If you drive past Spirit Lake you've gone too far.

  • Once you pulloff you can park here or pull into one of the narrow and short dirtroads that will take you right up to the lake, some people will camp here.

  • From there just hop in the lake and enjoy the water
