if you're looking for some serious alpine adventure, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is the place to be! Located on the summit of the Klein Matterhorn, it has an elevation of 3,883 meters (12,740 feet) above sea level, making it the HIGHEST able car station in Europe!
The first thing you'll notice is the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the Matterhorn. It's like you're standing on top of the world (or at least on top of Europe). One good reason for you to visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is that it offers a totally different perspective of the Matterhorn from the south side, which is not visible from the town of Zermatt or from the Gonergrat! The view from the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise faces towards Italy and gives you a unique and stunning view of the mountain from a different angle.
For couples/honeymoon travellers...Don't miss dedicated spot for lovers to hang love locks! Couples attach padlocks to the railings and fences around the summit, symbolizing their everlasting love and commitment. How romantic to get a YES, at Europe’s highest viewing platform?
Head indoors, and there is a cinema lounge where visitors can take a break from the mountain activities and enjoy a movie with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The cinema lounge is equipped with comfortable seats, a large screen, and state-of-the-art sound and projection systems. The cinema lounge often features movies and documentaries related to the Swiss Alps and the environment.
Make sure you also visit the Ice Palace - a magical world of ice sculptures and frozen tunnels that will make you feel like you're in a fairytale.
Check the website for full list of prices (differ according to season) and to book your tickets. It generally starts from 47.50CHF with the Half-fare card or Swiss Travel pass.
TIP: You can score cheaper tickets if you visit in the afternoon from 1.30pm onwards for the journey from Zermatt-Glacier Paradise or Zermatt - Schwarzsee!
Note: Make sure you are dressed warmly enough even during the summer months. And definitely if you are planning to visit the highest glacier palace in the world, you NEED those thick winter coat and sturdy boots!
