Lake Tekapo is known for its vast fields of blooming lupin flowers that peak in the spring/early summer season. Lupins are most commonly seen in shades of pink, lilac, and purple, although white and yellow ones also appear. Lupin fields around Lake Tekapo offer travellers the chance to take perfect Instagrammable shots of the vibrant colourful backdrop of the turquoise lake water with the blooming lupins as the main attraction. The Church of the Good Shepherd located on the shores of the lake is a popular spot amongst tourists to take pictures of the lupins, however it is easy enough to wander away from the crowds and get away from the people, enjoying the tranquil views of the lake. Not only are the lupins a gorgeous site to behold, visitors to this part of New Zealand can also enjoy the area's dark sky reserve and local restaurants!
