The iconic Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's must-visit sights. It's one of those places you know is beautiful, but once you see it in real life, you're even more amazed. The fountain was built as a monument to Roman aqueducts and was completed in 1762.

Like every popular place in a touristy city such as Rome, it's incredibly crowded. Probably the only time to see it empty all year round is from 2 am to 5:30 am, but even before 8:30 am, it's still enjoyable. I visited in June, one of the most crowded periods of the year, at 5:30 am, and there were already some people there, but it was empty enough to enjoy it.

However, don't be discouraged by the crowds and go whenever you like; it's honestly one of the best places in the city!

Top tip: If you go to the first floor of the United Colors of Benetton shop, right in front of the fountain, there are a couple of windows overlooking the fountain. Great view without the crowds!
