Niederhorn is mountain near Interlaken with panoramic views over Lake Thun and the Bernese Oberland peaks. The mountain transport here is usually open into November, making it a good choice in fall when other mountains have already closed for the season.
In late October and November, the grassy alpine meadows turn a bright gold color, beautiful contrasted against the bright blue lakes below.
You can ride up to the top just to enjoy the views from the picnic areas or restaurant. But we like to hike the ridge with dramatic views over the cliffs. As you descend off the ridge, the forest is full of red blueberry bushes, another favorite fall color.
To reach the Niederhorn viewpoint, you start by riding a funicular train located at Beatenbucht, 3658 Sigriswil, about a 15 min drive from Interlaken. There is metered parking next to the funicular. You can also ride a bus or ferry to the funicular station: Beatenbuch stop.
At the Beatenberg mountain village, you switch to a small gondola that takes you the rest of the way up the mountain.
In 2024, a round trip ticket to the top costs CHF 59. Free with the Berner Oberland Pass. Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and Half-fare cards.
