Hirosaki is a city located in western Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It has a cold humid continental climate, characterized by warm short summers and long cold winters with heavy snowfall. The city is noted for its historical castle and city emblem of a Buddhist manji which dates from the flag emblem of the Tsugaru clan, the daimyō of Hirosaki Domain during the Edo period. Around the area you can find many western-style buildings dating from the Meiji period. In modern day Hirosaki, the city government has been promoting the slogan "Apple Coloered Town" to help promote their image. This is no surprise as Hirosaki serves as the largest apple producer in the country.
