Mount Haguro, also known as the "Three Mountains of Dewa" is a religious site located in Tsuruoka city, Yamagata prefecture in Japan. It consists of a large shrine complex and a mountain with a height of 414 meters, making it the lowest of the three mountains and the only one that can be accessed all year round. Mount Haguro is home to an array of breathtaking sights such as the 2,446 stone steps that lead to its summit, 600-year-old sugi trees, and numerous shrines and temples. The climb up the mountain is also a delight, with visitors rewarded with picturesque views of the Gojūnotō (五重塔) five story pagoda, Grandpa cedar, and the 1000 years old cedar tree. For those who prefer not to take the long hike up, there's also a bus service available for your convenience. As an added bonus, travellers can splurge on a stay at the Saikan temple lodgings right at the summit. All in all, this is one cultural and spiritual destination you're sure to remember!
