Miyako-jima is a beautiful, tropical island located 300 kilometres southwest of Okinawa Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture. It is the fourth-largest island in the prefecture and features limestone formations, picturesque beaches, and lush forests. The island plays host to unique events such as Paantu, a festival wherein three men wearing masks and garlands of grass and leaves 'bless' homes and people by smearing them with mud. Miyako is also known for its sugarcane cultivation and hand-woven jōfu fabric, popular among locals and visitors alike. With its stunning landscapes, interesting culture and activities, Miyako-jima is truly a destination like no other.
