Kruger National Park is South Africa's oldest and largest game reserve. Over 19,000 square kilometers of wilderness provides a perfect habitat for hosting some of the world’s most iconic animals, including elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and more than 500 species of birds. Visitors can explore the park's stunning landscapes by car, on foot, or even on an organized safari or hot air balloon ride. Kruger National Park offers an unforgettable adventure to observe wild African wildlife in their natural environment.
I tried all different types of Safaris : self drive safari, guided safari, night safari, I slept in the park and outside the park, and here are my recommendations :
Book well in advance for private game lodges inside the park, such as Savanna Private Game Reserve, Singita Boulders Lodge, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Londolozi Private Granite Suites, Dulini Lodge, Singita Sweni Lodge or Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge. Be aware that these private lodges go around 1000-3000€ per night.
If you don't have this budget like me, you can still book basic lodges in the rest camps, there are many around the park, I recommend Oliphant Camp, Satara Camp, and Lower Sabie Camp.
You can also stay outside the park, there are tons of different accomodations for every price. I stayed at Luvivane Luxury Villa & Cottage, and it was a wonderful 4 bedrooms villa with pool and wild animals (zebras, antilopes, warthog, etc...) coming near the pool that you can feed, and it was only 250$ per night.
Now my recommendations for the safari itself is to start with a guided tour on the 1st day, around the Sabie region, then ask the guide what animals you want to see the most. If you're not lucky that day, they will still tell you all the roads and places where you can see them by self driving the next days. Kruger usually has big cats and rhinos in the south, and more elephants, buffalos, and giraffes in the north, but of course all animals move, so it's better to ask at the time you're there. Use also the "Latest Sightings - Wildlife" app which gives you all animals spotted recently around you. After that, explore the park by yourself self-driving. Wake up before sunrise and start exploring the park at your own pace.
I did 4 days in the park : 2,5 days self driving (6am-6pm), 1 full day guided safari (6am-3pm), and it was enough to see all the animals we wanted.
