Towada Shrine is a magical destination in Aomori Prefecture that captivates the hearts of travelers from around the world. It was founded by a Shinto priest named Nansobo who, while on a pilgrimage from Kumano to far off places, determined to continue his ascetic practices by walking everywhere he went and sporting iron sandals. After a 7-night battle with the 8-headed dragon Hachirotaro, he emerged victorious and transformed into the divine Seiryu Daigongen. It is believed that visitors offer prayers to this deity when they come to Lake Towada, which is now a National Park. The lake is tranquil and gorgeous, surrounded by koyo during autumn and filled with fishing spots and boat tours. Don’t miss your chance to experience the beauty and mystery of Towada Shrine for yourself!
