Message from Ashley Elliott

This is the north islands tallest waterfall. A leg burner for sure but absolutely worth it for the views and interesting river bed to explore at the top.

Further information: The Wairere Falls Track is situated in Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, Bay of Plenty region and offers a unique experience for avid hikers. The 5 km return trip will take you up to the lookout platform where stunning views of the falls can be seen, then it's onward and upward to the summit of the falls! Along the way, enjoy the serene atmosphere of moss-covered rocks and tree roots, with the sound of waterfalls coming from the large round boulders, as well as an abundance of wildlife such as Tūīs and Pūkeko. Be prepared with good footwear as some minor climbing is required, but the reward is well worth it when you reach the top and behold these magnificent falls.
