Lago Limides – A Quiet Escape in the Dolomites
The Hike
The trail to Lago Limides starts near Passo Falzarego, and it’s a relatively short hike—about 45 minutes. The path is slightly uphill in places but very manageable, and the views along the way make the effort worthwhile. You'll pass through meadows with stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks, and the landscape changes with every step, offering plenty of chances to take photos before you even reach the lake.

Sunrise and Sunset – Pure Magic
I visited Lago Limides for sunset, and it was absolutely magical. The warm golden light illuminated the peaks, and the calm water created perfect reflections. What made it even better was the tranquility—there were no crowds, just a few campers setting up their tents nearby to enjoy the serene atmosphere. It felt like having the whole place to ourselves.
Next time, I definitely want to return for sunrise. The light comes from a different direction in the morning, offering new perspectives and photo opportunities. It’s a spot where both sunrise and sunset promise something special.
Parking and Camping at Passo Falzarego
Parking at Passo Falzarego can be tricky, especially during the day. The spots fill up quickly, so it's best to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon after 4:00 PM when many visitors leave. For camper vans, arriving too late can be a problem as the area gets crowded, and you may find all the good spots already taken.
Many campers stay overnight here due to the convenient location for exploring the Dolomites (Park4Night). If you’re planning to park your camper for the night, make sure to arrive either early or in the afternoon for the best chance of finding a spot with a great view!
Why It’s Worth It
Lago Limides feels like a hidden gem, particularly in the evening when most people have left. The peaceful setting, combined with the stunning light, makes it a dream location for photography. On the way to the lake, the views are so incredible that you can capture breathtaking photos before even reaching the water. With both sunrise and sunset offering such unique opportunities, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to visit more than once to capture its full beauty. Just don’t forget to pack a headlamp if you plan to hike back after dark!
