Karersee – A Magical Spot for Photography
The Karersee (Lake Carezza) is one of the most stunning lakes in the Dolomites, famous for its vibrant turquoise water and beautiful mountain backdrop. It’s definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area!
Water Levels and Best Photo Conditions
The lake fills up primarily when the snow on the surrounding mountains melts in spring.
Late summer or early autumn can sometimes see low water levels, especially if there’s been little rain.
For the best mirror-like reflections, visit when the water is calm (no wind - or less then 5km/h) and the mountains are reflected on the surface.
Windless conditions are key for those perfect shots. If it’s too windy, I’d recommend coming back at sunrise or sunset for the best lighting, often less wind and fewer crowds.
Parking and Access
There’s a parking lot directly next to the lake, so you’re only about a 2-minute walk from the water.
If you’re traveling by Campervan, you can park there as well.
Parking fees:
2€ per hour for a car
9€ until 3h / 18€ = 3-12h / 30€ = 12-24h for a camper
If you’re parking all day with a car or if you are looking for cheaper options with the camper, check this link and check Parking lot 2 & Parking lot 3 ... https://eggental.com/de/dolomiten_natur/karer-see/erreichbarkeit-karer-see/mit-dem-pkw
The parking lot can get crowded, especially during peak season, so try to arrive early.
Perfect for Photography
If you’re lucky enough to visit when the lake has enough water and the conditions are calm ... the mountain reflection is magical, especially during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset. It's a spot where the light really enhances the scenery, and it’s worth coming back to for multiple shots at different times of the day.
Enjoy your visit to Karersee, it’s a place that never fails to impress!
