The Semáforo de Igueste is an iconic building located in Anaga, Tenerife, Canary Islands. With a view of ships arriving from Europe, the watchtower served as a communication system, using both smoke and fire signals to warn of attacks from foreign countries such as Britain, Netherlands, France, Berber, and America. Later on, when the invention of telegraphy revolutionized the signal systems, Anaga was one of twenty semaphores designated by Spanish royal decree in 1884. It operated until 1970, when it was abandoned, however it was added to the heritage red list in 2015.
