Newborough Beach, Anglesey, North Wales might be one of the most picturesque beaches in the UK...

But what's it like with kids? Well it was a winner with mine. However, I wouldn't go here for a "beach day" of bumming around on the sand and playing in the water... There are much better beaches on Anglesey for that.

But if you fancy a beach day with a difference then this beach is definitely one to try out - Visiting Ynys Llanddwyn was a big hit with the kids due to all the little coves and the views from the lighthouse over to Eryri are really really beautiful. And the red squirrel forest you drive (or can walk) through to get here gives it a really unique and magical vibe.

There are a few car parks through-out the woodland, the best one for the beach is the end car park. You pay at the barrier (not height restricted) on the way out with card or cash.

Toilets: at the car park

Food and drink: There was an ice cream van at the car park, and I have seen a food truck here before, but I would recommend taking a picnic down to the island.

Dog Friendly?: are welcome on sections of the beach/forest at different times of the year:

Ynys Llanddwyn island (1 April to 1 September)

keep dogs on short leads

keep to the marked paths to help protect ground-nesting birds

Blue Flag Beach (1 May to 30 September)

no dogs
