Llyn Geirionydd is a spectacular lake tucked away in a quieter area of Eryri (Snowdonia National Park). And has a lovely circular walk around the lake which is perfect for smaller children who aren't ready for longer days in the hills yet.

The total length of this walk is only 3.1km and took us about 1.5 hours with a toddler and lots of stops for playing (he walked half of this route and was in a carrier for the other half).

The first section follows a super quiet road (we didn't see any traffic on it while we were there) alongside the edge of the river, which has loads of shallow beach areas where you can stop for a paddle and play in the lake.

At the north bank of the lake, take a left and follow a footpath which leads up to a monument commemorating the 6th century poet Taliesin, who is said to have lived in the area. Continue back down to the banks of the lake following the footpath through the woodland to some tiny waterfalls and a pebble beach area. Here the path climbs slightly through the woods and over some boulders before flattening out to a gravel footpath. Follow this path until the south banks of the lake where you will drop back down to the lakeside and back to a tarmac road leading you back to the car park.

We loved this walk and will definitely be back in the summer with the whole gang of kids so they can enjoy playing in the crystal clear waters.
