Velvet Hill Walk (featuring Valley Crucis Abbey)
This is a perfect walk for anyone interested in Welsh history as it includes a visit to the ruins of Valley Crucis Abbey (built 1201) and a detour to a bronze age burial cairn which is topped with a monument dating back to the 9th century!
Plus you get some amazing views from the top of Velvet Hill, and you could even add in a stop to @abbeyfarmllangollen
bistro for lunch or coffee & cake half way!
On a warm day you could even head down to horseshoe falls at the end for a paddle and play in the river. We park at the Horshoe Falls car park which is free for National Trust members or £5 all day, there are toilets here and some picnic benches. Total length is 4.3km for the circular with less than 190m of climbing most of which is in a short steep climb near the beginning - so it's great for little legs.
