The Mawddach Trail is a beautiful, traffic-free walking and cycling path in Wales that runs alongside the Mawddach Estuary.

So far we have only walked sections of the Mawddach trail, but the parts we have seen, definitely left us wanting more - so this summer we are planning on cycling this route, if you fancy it too, here's the deets.

The full trail is 9.5 miles long, from Dolgellau to Barmouth, following the path of a former railway line along the margins of the stunning estuary of Afon Mawddach. The whole route is traffic free and there is a huge wooden toll bride (£1) to cross at the Barmouth end. You can start at either end of the trail as both have lots of parking and places to stop for food and drinks. Alternatively there are a few spots along the trail that you can park at making your ride/walk shorter. The 17th century George III inn at Penmaenpool also makes a perfect mid-ride pit stop.

It is estimated to take a family 2-4 hours to complete the round trip.

Bicycle hire is available at Dolgellau Cycles https://dolgellaucycles.co.uk/ prices start from £23 for adult bikes and £15 for kids bikes.
