Cwmorthin quarry and Waterfall is such a fun day out! forget soft play and try some slate play as you explore old mine and quarry ruins, a stunning mountain lake and 2 beautiful waterfalls.
Our visit here was a bit of a wild card that 100% paid off. We ended up 10 minutes down the road from here one night when we were struggling to find somewhere to stay. I've done a few hikes starting from the quarry so knew it was a great spot...But I didn't expect the kids to enjoy exploring here so much.
Although, it makes sense with so much to keep them occupied from waterfalls to bridges, lakes to mine ruins and even secret hidden gardens to explore...We only spent the morning here but I'm sure you could explore here all day (or even get out for a longer hike and bag some of the peaks in the area).
The waterfalls is right next to the car park, follow the road up to the right of it to get to the lake and quarry - it is a bit of a steep climb but it's on a gravel road so not too tricky and it doesn't go on too long. Also the views on this walk up are incredible, and should keep you distracted.
The car park at the quarry is very small so we didn't even try to park here I have included the postcode to a free car park further down the road that will add a bit of a hill walk in, but means you should easily get a spot and won't be getting involved in the chaos that can be the quarry carpark.
