One of the most relaxing and picturesque walks in Interlaken is the loop along the Aare River, starting and finishing at the Beau Rivage Bridge, near Interlaken Ost station. This easy and well-marked trail follows the turquoise waters of the Aare, offering stunning mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere just steps away from the town center.
From the Beau Rivage Bridge, the path follows the river as it flows between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. Walking along the riverbanks, you’ll pass through green spaces, small parks, and quiet residential areas. The Aare’s deep turquoise water contrasts beautifully with the surrounding nature, and on clear days, you’ll have incredible views of the Jungfrau Massif in the distance.
Midway through the loop, the trail crosses the river at another bridge, allowing you to walk back on the opposite side. The return route takes you past Unterseen, Interlaken’s charming centre, where you can admire traditional wooden chalets and perhaps stop for a coffee or snack. The final stretch brings you back to the Beau Rivage Bridge, completing the loop.
This flat and easy route takes about 45 minutes to an hour, making it ideal for a leisurely walk at any time of day. The combination of river views, mountain scenery, and a touch of history makes it a fantastic way to experience Interlaken’s quieter side.
