Whitehead is a small coastal village located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is situated on the east coast of the Islandmagee peninsula, overlooking the Irish Sea. The village is around 20 miles north of Belfast. Today, Whitehead retains its historical charm and is a popular seaside destination . One of my favourite spots in Whitehead is the promenade.
🌈The village is known for its picturesque seafront, lined with colorful Victorian and Edwardian houses. The promenade offers stunning views of the Irish Sea and is a great spot for a leisurely stroll. Amazing how one resident who once painted their house pink , sparked the interest and creativity of others, turning it into a promenade of rainbow colours! A true testament to the power of creativity and individuality.
Don’t miss
One of the notable landmarks in Whitehead is the Blackhead Lighthouse, built in 1902. The lighthouse is perched on top of Blackhead, a rocky headland that juts out into the sea. It is still in operation and serves as a navigational aid for ships entering Belfast Lough. The lighthouse is open to the public during certain times of the year, allowing visitors to climb to the top and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.
🍽️ The Lighthouse Bistro is a great spot for lunch/dinner!
☕️Bank House is one of great coffee shop when exploring Whitehead, be sure to check this out! It’s got a cute gift shop too!
