I recommend taking the boat from Interlaken. The 40-minute cruise across Lake Brienz offers stunning views of the surrounding Alps. As the boat approaches Iseltwald, you’ll see the village’s iconic castle-like chalet, Seeburg, perched on a small peninsula, it’s so dreamy!

📝 Things to do:

🏰 Seeburg Castle

While Seeburg Castle is a private property and not open to the public, it is one of Iseltwald's most iconic landmarks. Located on a small peninsula jutting out into Lake Brienz, this castle-like chalet can be viewed from the water or from various vantage points along the lake.

The castle's fairytale appearance and its dramatic setting on the lake make it one of the most photographed spots in the region.

⛪️Iseltwald Chapel

This small, charming chapel sits on a hill overlooking the village and offers a peaceful spot for reflection. The views from here are some of the best in the area, making it well worth the short walk.

🛥️Lake Brienz Boat Cruise

I recommend taking a boat cruise on Lake Brienz to fully appreciate the beauty of the lake and its surroundings. Regular boat services operate between Interlaken and Iseltwald, offering a scenic and relaxing way to travel between the two.The boat cruise offers stunning views of the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, the surrounding Alps, and the charming villages dotting the shoreline.

🛶 Rent a rowboat or paddleboard

This is also a popular way to experience Lake Brienz up close. The calm waters around Iseltwald are ideal for a gentle paddle, allowing you to take in the beauty of the village from a different perspective. If you’re feeling adventurous, paddle out to the small peninsula where the Seeburg castle sits. Though please keep in mind it’s private property and not open to the public, viewing it from the water is a unique experience though.

💦Swimming

On warm summer days you can take a refreshing dip in the clear waters of Lake Brienz if you keep to the small beach area near the village. It is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply relaxing by the water. The pristine, glacier-fed waters of Lake Brienz are some of the clearest in Switzerland. Pure bliss!

🥾Lake Brienz Panorama Trail

This scenic trail runs from Iseltwald to nearby villages and offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The section from Iseltwald to Giessbach Falls is so beautiful and takes about an hour and a half to complete. I highly recommend this trail, along the way, you’ll walk through lush forests, past waterfalls, and enjoy continuous views of the sparkling lake. The hike to Giessbach Falls is particularly rewarding, as the trail ends at one of Switzerland's most beautiful waterfalls. You can also take a vintage funicular up to the Grandhotel Giessbach for even more spectacular views.

Visit Giessbach Falls by boat

A short boat ride from Iseltwald will bring you to the impressive Giessbach Falls, where water cascades down over 500 meters (1,640 ft) in a series of spectacular drops.

☕️Café Strandhotel: Great spot to enjoy dessert or a cup of coffee.

🍽️ Dine at Restaurant Chalet du Lac: known for its Swiss cuisine and idyllic location right on the water. Enjoy a Swiss cheese platter, or a hearty rösti while savouring the view.

🌅Watch the Sunset

I recommend finding a spot to watch the sunset. The views from the lakeside promenade or the small beach area are spectacular, with the setting sun casting a warm glow over the mountains and the lake turning shades of pink and orange. The peacefulness of the village at this time of day is everything , creating a perfect moment of tranquility.
