Located 1,322 metres above sea level, Harder Kulm is a popular viewpoint and accessible day trip that provides a mix of hiking, scenic overlooks, and classic Swiss dining.
🚋Getting to Harder Kulm
By Funicular:
The fastest and most popular way to reach Harder Kulm is by taking the Harderbahn funicular railway from Interlaken. The journey takes about 10 minutes and provides stunning views as it ascends. Funicular tickets are available at the Harder Kulm station in Interlaken, and the service generally operates from mid-April to late November.
🥾Hiking option :
For a more adventurous route, you can hike up to Harder Kulm, which takes around 2–3 hours depending on pace. The trail starts from Interlaken and winds through forests and mountain paths, offering a rewarding experience if you prefer a more active approach.
Things to do at Harder Kulm:
📸Two Lakes Bridge:
The famous viewing platform, known as the "Two Lakes Bridge," extends out from the mountain with glass flooring at the edge, offering breathtaking views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz below. The platform is the perfect spot for photos and taking in the dramatic landscape.
🌄Panoramic Views:
From Harder Kulm, you can see the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks as well as the valleys below. The scenery is especially spectacular at sunrise or sunset.
🫕Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant:
Designed in a Swiss chalet style, the Panorama Restaurant serves traditional Swiss dishes like fondue, rösti, and alpine-inspired plates. The outdoor terrace lets you dine with a view, and the restaurant is also popular for drinks and desserts after enjoying the scenic overlook. I highly recommend the cheese fondue and hot wine , it honestly 10/10!
📝Tips for your visit:
🗓️Best Time to Visit: Late spring through early fall offers the best conditions. Arriving early or later in the evening can help avoid crowds, especially during the peak summer months. I recommend off season, I visited mid Oct when the autumn colours were at their peak it was so magical!
🧥Weather Preparation:
The weather at Harder Kulm can change quickly, so it’s wise to bring layers and check forecasts.
🎟️Ticket Options:
Tickets for the funicular can be bought at the station or online. The Swiss Travel Pass provides discounts, and children under 6 ride free.
⭐️Combination Tickets:
Some combination tickets also include meal vouchers for the Panorama Restaurant, which can be a nice package for visitors looking to enjoy a full experience.
