Lago di Limides, also known as Lake Limides, is a stunning mountain lake nestled in the Dolomites. With its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking reflections of the surrounding peaks, it's a photographer's dream. You can see the peaks of Lagazuoi, Tofana di Rozes, Sasso di Stria, and Averau reflected in its calm waters. The best part? It's incredibly easy to visit 😍

Just a short hike from the car parking area near Rifugio Col Gallina, this family-friendly trail offers beautiful scenery and takes only about 20-25 minutes each way. Whether you're looking for a quick stop to stretch your legs or a peaceful spot for a picnic, Lago di Limides is definitely worth a visit.

❄️Lake Limides is fed by melting snow and rainwater. So I don’t recommend visiting in peak summer season as the lake can often be completely dry. In winter the whole area is covered in snow.

📆June or September when water levels are usually high.

🥾Length: 1km (393ft) 🕚Time: 20-25 min one way.

Parking at the car park near Rifugio Col Gallina. Park your car on the right side of the road with Falzarego Pass behind you and walk to the far end of the car parking area. At the car park you will find signs. Follow trail no. 419 in the direction of Forcella Averau.

This hike starts on a forest trail and starts climbing from the very start. Hiking uphill means the good news is, on the way back it will all be downhill.

📸Keep an eye out for some caves that you can check out on the trail. You will see Mt Croda Negra in front and behind the Lagazuoi behind. If you visit in early summer, you'll find the most colourful mountain flowers along the shores of the lake. It’s so dreamy.

🅿️ Rifugio Col Gallina, 1 km east from Falzarego Pass.

🚗Easiest route is by car.

🚍 In peak season I recommend you take a bus between Cortina and Falzarego Pass. There's a bus stop right at Col Gallina.

⭐️Travel Tip: Lago Limides is a great short stop to stretch your legs when driving between Val Gardena and Cortina d'Ampezzo. You can also easily combine this short hike with one of the longer day hikes at the Falzarego Pass or stop here when you visit Cinque Terre.

🌅I recommend visiting Lake Limides in the evening, just before sunset. The hike back to the car is so short . You can see the magical light at sunset at the lake and make it back to your car long before it’s dark.
