The Gobbins Cliff Path is a spectacular, exciting and unique way to explore the dramatic coast of Northern Ireland. The Gobbins Walk first opened in 1902 and was originally aimed at Edwardian thrill-seekers that wanted to experience a chunk of Northern Ireland’s most dramatic coastline up close.
This is a challenging 5km walk with steep inclines and declines. From rock formations carved by the elements to ancient bridges and pathways, you can admire the awe-inspiring sights on foot. Over the course of The Gobbins Tour, you’ll be taken along narrow, uneven path that wraps around some of Antrim’s beautifully craggy basalt cliffs. You will ramble across rugged staircases carved into the cliff face and into caves that were once home to smugglers and privateers.
There’s a tunnel on the tour that is dark and slightly eerie. You’ll go below sea level and hear the thunder of the sea crashing against the walls as you walk through! Pretty incredible!
You can expect a journey through time and an array of captivating wildlife, offering a once in a lifetime experience. Not only does this cliff path offer beautiful views and nature exploration, but also history lessons on the 19th century engineering genius behind its conception. With so much to be discovered, The Gobbins Cliff Path is an experience not to be missed when exploring Northern Ireland!
