Castle Ward is a historic estate located near the village of Strangford on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland. Castle Ward is now owned and managed by the National Trust, as a National Trust property, it is open to the public, allowing you to explore the mansion, gardens, and grounds.

The estate dates back to the 18th century and was home to the Ward family for generations. The mansion on the estate is an architectural hybrid, featuring both classical Palladian and Gothic styles. The mansion at Castle Ward is divided into two halves, each representing a different architectural style. This distinctive design makes Castle Ward a notable and interesting property.

It encompasses beautiful gardens, woodlands, and walking trails. I encourage you to explore the Sunken Garden, Temple Water, and other landscaped areas.

🎬 Castle Ward has gained international recognition as a filming location for the immensely popular HBO Game of Thrones. It was used to represent the fictional land of Winterfell. The exterior of Castle Ward served as the backdrop for Winterfell, and key scenes set in the Winterfell courtyard were filmed here. This includes memorable moments such as Bran Stark's archery lessons.

The nearby Audley's Castle, which is also part of the Castle Ward estate, was used in "Game of Thrones" as well. It featured in scenes such as Robb Stark's camp.

During your visit to Castle Ward you have the opportunity to take guided tours that specifically focus on the "Game of Thrones" filming locations. These tours provide insights into the production process and allow fans of the series to immerse themselves in the real-world settings of Westeros.
