Carrick-a-Rede is a famous rope bridge and a popular tourist attraction in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The site is near the village of Ballintoy and not far from other iconic locations such as the Giant's Causeway.

Carrick-a-Rede is situated along the Causeway Coastal Route. The main feature of Carrick-a-Rede is its rope bridge, which spans a 20-meter-wide chasm between the mainland and Carrick-a-Rede Island. The bridge is suspended around 30 meters above the sea. Originally, the bridge was constructed by fishermen to access their salmon nets on the island. Crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge offers an adventurous experience for those seeking a bit of excitement. The bridge is secure and regularly inspected, but it provides a unique thrill!

The area around Carrick-a-Rede offers spectacular views of the North Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline. You can enjoy panoramic vistas, especially from the vantage points along the coastal cliffs.

The island and surrounding cliffs provide a habitat for seabirds, including fulmars, kittiwakes, and guillemots. Birdwatchers often visit Carrick-a-Rede for the opportunity to observe these species in their natural environment.

In addition to the rope bridge, Carrick-a-Rede offers walking trails along the coastal cliffs. These trails provide a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area, and there are designated viewpoints for taking in the scenery.

Carrick-a-Rede is managed by the National Trust, a conservation organization. The site is open to the public, and there is an entrance fee to access the bridge and the island.

The site includes visitor facilities including a parking area, information center, and a tea room. Guided tours are available, providing additional insights into the history and ecology of Carrick-a-Rede.

Please note , during peak seasons I recommend you book a time slot online before your visit!
