Castle Coole is a magnificent historic estate situated on the western outskirts of Enniskillen, within the Marble Arch Geopark. It is one of the most notable and well-preserved stately homes in Northern Ireland. The estate covers a vast area with lush parklands and a large lake.
It was designed by James Wyatt and built between 1789 and 1798 for the 1st Earl of Belmore. It exemplifies neo-classical architecture, with symmetrical proportions, grand columns, and a sense of timeless elegance.
The interiors of Castle Coole are equally impressive. You can explore various rooms, including the State Bedroom, the Saloon, and the Dining Room.
🌿The estate boasts extensive grounds and gardens designed by Richard Turner. The gardens include terraced lawns, a walled garden, and scenic pathways. The lake, Lough Coole, adds to the picturesque setting.
Within the estate, you can find interesting features such as the Ice House, a structure used for storing ice in the 18th century. There's also a charming summerhouse located by the lake.
You can opt for a guided tour to learn about the history , its architecture, and the lives of the families who lived there.
