Sakurajima is a super active volcano in Japan that used to be an island but now it's a peninsula. It's like the rockstar of volcanoes, constantly spewing ash and making a scene since 1955.
When I visited back in the summer of 2024 for 3 days, it erupted 2 out of the 3 days. Apparently, it erupts about 200 times per year.
People in Kagoshima keep a close eye on it 'cause it's so close by, and they even have evacuation drills just in case things get too fiery. Tourists dig the hot springs and giant radishes grown in its fertile volcanic soil. Oh, and it recently had a major eruption in July 2022, causing quite a stir with cinders flying everywhere!
