Tategasaki rock in Kumano City is a massive wall of rock jutting into Nigishima Bay. Standing at about 80 meters high and 550 meters wide, it offers epic views of waves crashing into the Kumano-nada Sea. Legend has it that Emperor Jinmu landed here on his way to conquer the East. You can reach Tategasaki with a scenic boat ride or a 90-minute walk from JR Nigishima station.
