The Matsumoto-toge Pass is part of the ancient Kumano Kodo Iseji pilgrimage route, which connects the Ise Grand Shrine to Kumano. This trail is known for its well-preserved cobblestone paths and scenic views of the surrounding mountains, offering a serene experience as you walk through forests of cedar and cypress trees.

Trail Type: Well-maintained cobblestone path, with some steep and uneven sections.
Historic Cobbled Path: The Matsumoto-toge trail has sections of the original stone paths from centuries ago, giving you a sense of walking in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims.
Flora & Fauna: The trail is lined with lush forests, offering beautiful scenery during all seasons, especially in the autumn when the leaves change colors.
Bamboo Forests: Pass through calming bamboo groves that add to the mystical atmosphere of the hike.
Matsumoto-Toge Kannon: This small stone statue of Kannon (Buddhist deity) stands at the top of the pass, offering a resting point and a moment for reflection.
Trailhead Access: The trailhead can be accessed from the JR Kisei Main Line at Aiga Station. From there, it's about a 15-20 minute walk to the trail's starting point.
End Point: The trail ends at the Kumano City Matsumoto area, where hikers can visit local shrines and historic sites.
