Hiking Lookout Mountain Trail Head, located in Montreat NC near Asheville is a great option for sunset. I love this hike because it's short (and steep) but provides great pay off and is not a bad drive if you're staying in Asheville.

Although this hike is short, you will be hiking uphill for the entire way to the lookout. There aren't a ton of parking spots for this hike so plan ahead. If there aren't any parking spots available, you can park further down the hill at Anderson Auditorium, but this will add a little mileage to your hike. Do not park on the side of the road if there aren't parking spots because you will get fined.
