Urquhart Castle is a historical Scottish castle situated near Drumnadrochit in the Highlands of Scotland, and it has welcomed many visitors over the years. This ruined castle overlooks Loch Ness and has been home to many different people and events over time. With an ancient history dating back to the 13th century, the castle has gone through wars, rebellions and raids, coming out relatively unscathed in the end up until it was partially destroyed by Jacobite forces in 1692. Remains of its original fortress, known as the "shell keep" or motte, still exist today alongside ruins of other taller structures built by previous occupants, such as Grant Tower. The castle has become a significant tourist spot with over 500,000 visitors every year, making it one of the most-visited castles in Scotland.
