The Garðar BA 64 is a mysterious and fascinating remnant from Iceland's past. Originally launched the same year that the Titanic met its final fate, the Garðar BA 64 was a state-of-the-art whaling vessel used by many owners through its lifetime. The hull was especially reinforced to break through icy Southern seas and its powerful engine kept the boat sailing even in calm waters. After decades in service, it was beached in Skápadalur Valley in 1981 where it remains to this day, becoming a popular spot for photographers and visitors wanting to marvel at the lovely mix of Icelandic scenery and industrial ruin. With its rusty hulking shape, the Garðar BA 64 is a beautiful tribute to times gone by and still holds many mysteries and secrets about its long life at sea.
