This small cave located near Lake Myvatn is one of the most unknown places in the northern region, yet it is so unusual. This cave, located right in the area of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that crosses Iceland. the water is 43°C and 48°C

Grjótagjá is known today for having appeared in the famous series Game of Thrones and more precisely in the episode Kissed by fire.

The cave is easily accessible on road 860. It is located not far from the village of Reykjahlíð. To get there you can either come from Route 1 and take Route 860 south, or via Route 848 which circles south of Lake Myvatn.

The cave is 4 km from Reykjahlíð and 6 km from Hverir.
