What makes this hike stand out is its combination of well-crafted trails, dramatic natural features, and panoramic vistas, all within easy reach of Svolvær. From the carefully constructed Djeveltrappa to the striking rock formation of Djevelporten and the breathtaking viewpoints near Fløya’s summit, this route offers variety and adventure. For those seeking a blend of adventure and accessibility, Fløya and Djevelporten deliver an unforgettable experience.

Starting point: The trailhead is located just outside Svolvær, easily accessible by car, bus (stop: Svolvær øst, line 300), or on foot from the Svolvær ferry dock. Paid parking is available at the trailhead (Google Maps coordinates: 68.244857, 14.577674), with payment via the EasyPark app.

Route: The hike begins with the Djeveltrappa, a set of stone stairs built by Sherpas in 2019. These stairs make the initial ascent easy and enjoyable, offering resting spots with excellent views of Svolvær and its surrounding islands. After the stairs, the trail enters a more rugged middle section, winding through bushes and across flat boulders that can be slippery in wet weather. For those heading to Djevelporten first, the path ascends another section of stairs before reaching the famous rock wedged between two cliffs. This natural marvel is a highlight of the hike, providing dramatic photo opportunities. Be cautious near the unprotected cliffs! From Djevelporten, the trail continues as a ridge hike toward Fløya. This section involves some light scrambling and offers stunning views at every turn. Near Fløya’s summit, the trail becomes more challenging, with the final climb requiring technical skills. Most hikers choose to enjoy the alternative viewpoints instead, which deliver equally spectacular panoramas without the risks of the summit climb.

Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Red = challenging; suitable for experienced hikers with good endurance and necessary hiking equipment.

Distance: ≈ 4.5 km
