The hike to the Munkebu hut follows the same path as the hike to the Munken peak. Along the way, you’ll traverse varied terrain, from rocky ascents to tranquil lakes and boggy sections. For those who enjoy camping, the hike offers excellent spots near Munkebu Hut, making it a popular choice for a peaceful night in nature.

Starting point: To start the hike, head to Sørvågen and turn right about 500 meters after passing through the village toward Å. Park in the paid lot located between Lake Sørvågvatnet and the school. The parking fees are 100 NOK for cars and 200 NOK for motorhomes from 8 am to 3 pm, and 50 NOK for cars and 250 NOK for motorhomes from 3 pm to 8 am. Payment is cash-only, so be sure to come prepared. Use these coordinates for the lot: 67.889834, 13.017908. From here, the well-marked trail begins, offering clear navigation to your destination.

Route: The hike to the Munkebu Hut begins near Lake Sørvågvatnet, with a steady ascent leading to Studalvatnet. The trail, well-marked and easy to follow, meanders along the lake’s shores before climbing steeply up a rocky hillside equipped with chains. This section can be slippery in wet conditions, but the chains provide ample support. Afterward, the trail levels out through a boggy area and continues past small ponds, offering incredible views of lakes, waterfalls, and distant peaks. The first leg concludes with a descent to Munkebu Hut. For those planning to camp, Munkebu Hut is an excellent base with nearby water and plenty of tent spots.

Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Red = challenging; suitable for experienced hikers with good endurance and necessary hiking equipment.
