Værøy Church, located in Sørland on the southern side of Værøya in Nordland County, is a striking white stone church built in 1939. Designed by architect Harald Sund, it features a long church style and seats around 313 people. Serving as the main church for Værøy parish, it replaced the Old Værøy Church in Nordland, which had been the island’s only place of worship since the late 1700s. The new church was built in Sørland to better serve the growing population there, while the old church still hosts monthly services. Værøy Church stands as a symbol of faith and community in the stunning Lofoten landscape.
