Veggen in Lofoten may be a modest mountain, but it certainly offers incredible views! Standing at 489 meters above sea level, it proudly overlooks two of Lofoten’s most picturesque beaches—Haukland Beach and Uttakleiv Beach—making it the perfect spot to enjoy breathtaking sights of both from above. As one of the shortest mountain hikes in Lofoten, it’s accessibility by car plus the views making it a must-add to your Lofoten itinerary! Veggen is also a less-crowded alternative to the more popular Mannen hike, since the trail is steeper.

Starting point: You have to drive to Uttakleiv Beach to start your hike. Please note, there is only this one possibility to park your car, and it’s a paid parking lot (your license plate gets photographed and you need to pay afterwards). You can also stay overnight at this place. The coordinates for Google Maps: 68.209215, 13.507217

Route: The first part of the Veggen hike can be muddy and slippery after rain, but it’s relatively short and soon leads to a small saddle between Mannen and Veggen, where you’ll find a small lake called Vasskarvatnet. The trail may split into several paths, but follow the widest, steepest one to the right for the steepest part of the ascent. Once you reach the flat summit, you’ll pass a viewpoint over Uttakleiv Beach, and the actual summit, marked by a cairn, lies in the opposite direction toward Haukland Beach.

Difficulty according to Norwegian standards: Blue = Suitable for moderately trained hikers with basic hiking knowledge and some experience in the terrain.

Distance: ≈ 3 km
Elevation gain: ≈ 437 meters up & down
Duration: ≈ 3 hours
