At the Engelberg Titlis ski resort, there is an easy winter hike on snow around the frozen Trübsee lake.
Trail: Easy • 1 hour • 3 k • 20m up, 40m down See trail map.
Location: Engelberg Titlis gondola - Gerschnistrasse 12, 6390 Engelberg
Conditions: live status • forecast • webcams
The path is regularly groomed with machines, so you can walk it with regular hiking shoes.
Since the trail is not directly on the ski slopes, it's very quiet but still with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. The trail is a loop, ending at a small sledding hill with free sleds and magic carpet.
There is a restaurant at the gondola station and chair lift along the trail.
FOR FAMILIES: This is a nice option for a parent tending children too young to ski, while other family members are on the slopes. When we went, the snow was packed enough to support an all-terrain stroller with wide wheels. But perhaps better to drag young children on a wooden sled with rails, which is more manageable on the snow.
How to get there
This hike is accessed with the Titlisbahn gondola to the Trübsee station.
By car: Drive to Engelberg and follow signs to Titlisbahn - Gerschnistrasse 12, 6390 Engelberg. Park in the metered lot next to the base station.
By public transport: Take a train to Engelberg, then short bus ride to the Engelberg, Titlisbahn stop.
