Short and easy panorama path on a high plateau covered with wildflowers in Eastern Switzerland.
We love taking our visitors here because it's not in a popular tourist zone but has stunning views to match anywhere in Switzerland. It's also a pretty easy trail, good for those that don't hike very much.
Trail: easy • 1 h • 3 km loop • 80m up and down
See trail map.

Location: Unterwasser-Iltios funicular: Früeweidstrasse 1950, 9657 Alt St. Johann

You start the day by riding a funicular train, then cable car up up to the cliffs, where you’ll find a restaurant and the start of the trail.
The first part of the trail wanders through an alpine flower garden along the cliffs, with info about each flower. Then you loop around the plateau, getting different views of the mountains, cliffs, and bright blue lake below.
The trail is not difficult, more of a stroll. There are cliffs on the sides and no barriers, so you need to be careful with children.
If you want a longer hike, we recommend adding on the hike down from Chäserrugg to Gämseralp, a really beautiful hike and not very difficult. Or ride back down to the middle station in Iltios and join the Toggenburg Tone Trail, with 20+ interactive musical stations along the trail.
