Beautiful hike to an alpine lake, perfect place for a picnic and a chilly dip in the water on a hot summer day. We also love this area in autumn when the fall colors are out in force. The trail is a relatively easy 9km, a good choice for training kids to walk longer distances.

The lake is absolutely gorgeous, a perfect place for a picnic and skipping rocks. If you are brave, we recommend a quick dip in the chilly water, a great way to cool off after the hike.

Trail Info

We've done three trails that lead from Braunwald to the Oberblegisee lake. Our clear favorite is the Panorama Trail that starts at the top of the Gumen chair lift.

Trail: 3 hr • 7.6 km one way • 70m up, 890m down

This version has the nicest views and all the drama. But it has much more elevation descent and a more lumpy trail. It’s also the most expensive version.

How to get there

This is a one way trail, with mountain lifts on both sides to access the trail.

Start: Linthal, Braunwaldbahn funicular (Stachelberg 2, 8783 Glarus Süd)

End: Luchsingen-Brunnenberg cable car (Achern 11, 8775 Glarus Süd)

There is train service that connects these two ends of the trail. So if you drive, you can park at one end and easily get back by train after the hike.
