Gornergrat is a spectacular mountain peak that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Alpine landscape. It is located in the Pennine Alps, near the resort town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais. At an elevation of 3089m it offers stunning views of 29 of the highest peaks in the Alps, including the Matterhorn. The Gornergrat railway is one of the highest cog railways in Europe. It takes you from the town of Zermatt to the summit of Gornergrat in just 33 minutes, traveling through tunnels and over bridges along the way. The railway is powered by electricity and has a maximum gradient of 20%. There is also an interesting option of buying so called Wanderticket - you can go all the way up with the railway and then walk down two stations to Riffelsee - one of the most beautiful places in Switzerland due to the Matterhorn reflection in the lake. Then you can jump in to the railway next to the Riffelsee. Ticket price will strongly depend on the season (most expensive in summer, less expensive in winter).
