The Glenwood Open Space Preserve in Scotts Valley is a 170-acre natural retreat offering over seven miles of trails through diverse landscapes, including redwood groves, oak woodlands, meadows, and wetlands. Divided into two sections—Glenwood West and Glenwood East—the preserve caters to various outdoor enthusiasts. Glenwood West features approximately three miles of multi-use trails suitable for hikers, mountain bikers, and leashed dogs, with gentle gradients and scenic valley views. In contrast, Glenwood East offers over four miles of trails that traverse rolling hills, wildflower fields, and a picturesque pond; however, to protect sensitive habitats and due to the presence of grazing cattle, dogs and bicycles are not permitted in this section.
Springtime transforms the preserve into a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers. Visitors can witness hillsides adorned with blooming purple lupines, particularly in Glenwood West, where these flowers line the trails and cascade down the slopes. The preserve’s diverse habitats also support other native wildflowers, including California poppies, owl’s clover, and vetch, creating a colorful display that attracts nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely walk with your dog or a more immersive nature experience, Glenwood Open Space Preserve offers a tranquil escape amidst the diverse landscapes of Scotts Valley.
We recommend parking in the large parking lot at Siltanen Park, and then walk through the sports complex to the trailhead by the Pacific Flow Swim School.
