A dreamy spot you cannot miss on your visit to the Azores is Parque Terra Nostra! This place is a mix of tropical gardens, winding pathways, and a giant thermal pool that looks like something from another world. It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, and it’s the perfect spot to slow down and soak in the magic of Furnas. Let’s dive into the info!

How to Get to Parque Terra Nostra 🗺️

Location

Parque Terra Nostra is in Furnas, a small town on São Miguel Island, Azores. It’s about:

  • 45 minutes from Ponta Delgada by car

  • 30 minutes from Ribeira Grande

If you don’t have a car, you can take a public bus from Ponta Delgada, but the schedule is limited. A rental car or a guided tour is the best way to get here.

Parking

There’s free parking outside the park entrance, but it can fill up fast, especially in peak season. If you’re visiting in summer, go early to grab a spot.

About..

This isn’t just any park. It’s one of the most famous botanical gardens in the Azores, known for its exotic plants, thermal waters, and otherworldly landscapes. The gardens date back to the 18th century and have grown into a lush, green paradise filled with rare flowers, towering trees, and hidden pathways that make you feel like you’re in a storybook. But let’s be real, the highlight for most is the huge thermal pool in the middle of the park. The water is a warm, mineral-rich shade of orange (thanks to the iron content), and while it might look a little unusual, it’s incredibly relaxing.

Things to Do in the Park 📝

  • Soak in the Thermal Pool – The warm water (around 38°C) is perfect for unwinding, and the minerals are said to be great for your skin.

  • Explore the Gardens – With over 2000 species of plants. Wander through ferns, palm trees, and colourful flowers from around the world.

  • Find Hidden Corners – There are small ponds, winding paths, and little wooden bridges scattered throughout the park. Take your time and explore.

  • Check Out the Smaller Thermal Pools – Besides the main pool, there are a couple of smaller, more secluded ones if you want a quieter spot to relax.
